Manipulative Romance

Seduction as Weapon

These films all trade in the same bargain: attraction as the entry point for a con, a betrayal, or a trap that only reveals itself once it's too late to escape. The desire is never incidental to the plot but the mechanism of it, whether that's a lover masking a criminal scheme, a spouse whose passion doubles as manipulation, or a stranger whose charisma turns paranoia into the only rational response. What lingers across them is the queasy pleasure of watching characters mistake a setup for intimacy, and pay for it.
