Cinnamon DB doesn’t ask what a movie is. It asks what a movie does to you, and goes looking for that feeling wherever it’s hiding, genre be damned. Everywhere else, the answer comes back sorted the way a filing cabinet sorts: by decade, by label, by what other people happened to click next. Useful for finding a movie you already know the name of. Useless for the actual moment — the one where you’re standing in front of everything ever made, knowing precisely how you want the next two hours to feel, with no way to ask for it.

That’s the moment this was built for. Not a smarter shelf. A way to ask the question you were already asking.

The algorithm

Every movie gets its own fingerprint, built from a wide range of emotions instead of a single genre label. That’s what makes the picks here actually feel right. It also means a recommendation can land somewhere a genre-based system would never have looked — a different era, a different country, a different shelf entirely — and still be exactly the thing you were after. And because every film in the catalog is read the same way, a small movie nobody’s heard of gets weighed on the same terms as one everybody has.

Almost everything doubles as a way to find your next watch: studios, actors, genres, keywords, and mood clusters all lead somewhere new. Clusters are the good part — they group films by what they actually feel like rather than the label they were sold under, so wandering into one is closer to browsing a shelf someone thoughtful put together than filtering a spreadsheet. Nothing here is a dead end; every page opens into three more.

Collect favorites, build a watchlist, or start your own lists, then get recommendations built around exactly those. Not one movie at a time — the whole shape of what you’ve saved, read together, so the suggestions get sharper the more you put in.
