Mystery Thrillers

Mystery And Suspicion

What ties these films together isn't genre so much as a persistent doubt about what's actually true. Again and again, a character (and the audience with them) has to weigh a competing story against reality — whether it's a woman's hidden past, a family's disappearance, a recovered memory, a body that shouldn't be there, or a stranger's unsettling tales. The suspense comes less from action than from the slow, uneasy work of figuring out who or what can be trusted.
