Gangs and Militant Groups

This is a loose-knit assortment where "gangs and militant groups" turns out to mean almost any organized unit operating outside—or at the edges of—ordinary law: yakuza, terrorists, vigilante teenagers, rogue cops, Nazi collaborators, pirate crews, heist gangs, marine brotherhoods, even a squad of bumbling cadets. What actually recurs is less a genre than a structure: small, tightly bonded groups whose internal loyalty gets tested against violence, corruption, or moral compromise, ranging from grim historical reckoning to pure slapstick camaraderie. The tone swings wildly from Lacombe, Lucien's unbearable moral weight to Police Academy's goofball teamwork, but each film is really asking what holds a group together when the outside world turns hostile.
