Prison Escape Movies
Captivity and Escape
What links these films is less a genre than a physical sensation: bodies and minds pressed against confinement, then straining toward release. Whether it's a fugitive fleeing across a continent, a man trapped in an abbey's brain-experiments or a bureaucratic labyrinth, a couple cornered by something feral in the dark, or bears simply trying to stay together on the run, the recurring engine is pursuit and enclosure — cops and convicts, monsters and prey, ideologies locking two people in a room. Even the comedies here (Sherlock Jr., The Adventurer, Bugs outwitting Fudd) run on the same logic of narrow escape, just played for laughs instead of dread.
