Desire as a Trap
These films keep returning to the same trap: intimacy as the very mechanism that destroys clarity. Lovers, spouses, and newly-trusted strangers become the unreliable center of the story, so that wanting someone and suspecting them collapse into the same feeling—every embrace carries a question mark, every confession might be a lie. The result is less about crime being uncovered than about desire itself curdling into surveillance, jealousy, and self-doubt, until the people closest to the protagonist are also the ones they can least afford to believe.
