These are movies that trap a small group somewhere inescapable—an oil rig, bunker, submarine, prison, island—and then unleash something engineered, mutated, or simply monstrous on them, betting everything on cornered-animal desperation rather than character work. The science is usually an excuse (a lab experiment, a genetic tweak) that exists only to justify a threat too big and hungry for the space it's confined to. What holds them together is a scrappy, low-budget commitment to visceral survival mechanics: count the exits, watch people die in order, wait for the last-reel escape.
